Theresa Ann Beaudreau

I have been working in the social services since 1973. Through community action and being on the front lines with people in need of resources: food, shelter, clothing, and advocacy, I have learned that healing happens when need is met with compassion. And compassion is often learned in places and faces where one would least expect.

Through being part of building therapeutic communities (people helping people), I have seen the goodness in the helpers and the helped, wondering who was helping who. My vocation is to be present to the Divine Presence working within the physical, spiritual, and psychological places of the individuals involved.

As a clinical social worker my office is a sacred space where clients are safe to tell their stories in a holding, non-judgmental environment. Using the fine art of listening, I am invited to attend to the unfolding journey of the client. Together we look over the variety of issues, strength, and weakness--those places where the person has become closed and is in need of healing in order to live an authentic life. In the telling and the seeing from different perspectives (like looking at all the sides and colors of a crystal), the client enters into the various dimensions of healing in body, mind, and soul.

As a therapist I am a witness to another's pain, joy, and desires, meeting the person with skills that are eclectic in nature. The type of therapy offered is determined by where the client is in the process. This might mean a referral to a health practitioner, engaging in pastoral counseling which takes a look at God in one's life, or kabbalistic healing, a pathway .to wholeness, and authenticity. Psychotherapy—care of the soul—touches all those areas that have been closed off to a person, allowing light and insight to enflesh the vulnerable self.

My belief is that God is always present, that hospitality is the hearth where my work takes place, and that through the gift of compassion healing can take place in client and therapist alike. I bring skills of connecting the client to his or her environment, whether it is the outer world or the inner one. Together we learn to embrace all that is.
